Patrimonio Cultural y Estéticas de la Identidad


This project aims to identify, classify, organize and report on the distinctive cultural characteristics of Afro-descendants living in Arica and Azapa and Lluta valleys. The aim is to generate relevant data to help frame public policies considering them, as well as to support the legal process involving their recognition as a distinct people, with their associated cultural rights.

It is used an ethnographic research method that aims firsthand data collection of those that currently recognize themselves as African descendants. The ethnographic process and the identification of rural areas and urban spaces historically  related  to their occupation in Arica, Azapa and Lluta is carried out in collaboration with their organizations. The use of genealogy to trace their family trees, the registration of stories and life trajectory, cadastral of organizations and interviews to officials, academics and others directly involved in the recognition of African descendants identity process is also considered.
