CULTURAL HERITAGE AND AESTHETICS OF IDENTITY

This investigation line is led by Pedro Mege, CIIR director, and Luis Campos. Its investigation proposal has as goal contributing to public visibility of indigenous communities, highlighting their artistic-symbolic production and helping chilean society to acknowledge the cultural backround and aesthetic presence of native cultures. As well as accounting for strains present in the process of heritarisation of those same communities, focusing on collaboration, resistance and negotiations that actors involved undertake when facing this process.

Work Areas

  • Poetic and aesthetic performance of indigenous groups in Chile: Description, analysis and reconstruction of the musical system associated with the practice of popular religiosity with indigenous elements.
  • Testimonial rescue from indigenous peoples (written and visual records) as historical source.
  • Identity and construction of heritage from archeological and bioanthropological investigation. (prehistory, genomics and diversity)
